Arts-in-School Partnership Scheme First Round Results & Second Round Call for Application

Funded by Home Affairs Bureau, Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) launched a three-year programme entitled “Arts-in-School Partnership Scheme” last year with aims to encourage school operators to lease their premises and facilities for local arts groups/organisations, fostering mutual collaborations and bringing arts into the school campus.

“Arts-in-School Partnership Scheme” launched its Pilot Stage in mid-2018, supporting five arts groups and schools to start their collaborations. The Pilot Stage was successful in exploring new creative and rehearsal space for participating arts groups. Meanwhile, the arts activities organised by the arts groups also helped broaden students’ artistic horizon. The selected partners included Toolbox Percussion Ltd. and Kowloon Tong School (Primary Section), Wheel Thing Makers Creative Society and Hong Chi Morninghope School, Tuen Mun, Art Home and HKMA K S Lo College, Jumbo Kids Theatre and Tai Kok Tsui Catholic Primary School (Hoi Fan Road), Théâtre de la Feuille and Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School. Following the Pilot Stage, HKADC rolled out the Scheme in full with an open call for application in October 2018. Local arts groups/organisations of different art forms and all primary, secondary and special schools in Hong Kong were invited to enrol for the matching. Each participating arts group is provided with a maximum of HK$120,000 for hiring charges for use of the school facilities and a funding of no more than HK$80,000 per annum for organising up to two arts activities for their partnering school. For the participating schools, HKADC will each provide a subsidy of no more than HK$80,000 per annum for extra manpower, venue support, security measures etc.

The first full rollout of “Arts-in-School Partnership Scheme” has received enthusiastic response with 28 applications from the arts sector and 31 school applications. 19 pairs of arts groups and schools have been successfully matched, among which arts groups of various genres including dance, drama, multi-disciplinary arts, music, visual arts and xiqu will collaborate with primary and secondary schools in different districts of Hong Kong. The partnerships are set to commence between July and September 2019.
