Hong Kong Scholarship for NAS – Executive Program in Arts & Culture Strategy 2020 Open for Application

To nurture local arts administration talents, Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) collaborates with various world acclaimed arts and cultural organisations to provide attachment and professional training programmes. These attachment and training opportunities target to strengthen the leadership and management expertise, and widen the international horizon of local promising arts administrators. This year, HKADC partners with NAS again to launch the “Hong Kong Scholarship for NAS – Executive Program in Arts & Culture Strategy 2020”. The scholarship supports one local arts administrator, who has professional experience and aspires to advance his/her career, to study the said Executive Program designed by NAS and the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice. It is now open for application.

The Executive Program in Arts & Culture Strategy is an Ivy League1 credential that is designed to give participants comprehensive training in arts management, covering strategy & positioning, non-profit fundraising, leading teams and management, introduction to social media, community and collaboration, finance and many more topics. Commencing from December 2019 to August 2020, the Executive Program in Arts & Culture Strategy consists of six online courses taking four to six hours per week, and two in-person conferences held at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in March and August 2020 respectively. Each on-campus conference will last around three to four days and will be conducted by the faculty of University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice and experienced executives of arts and professional organisations across the USA. The awardee has the opportunity to attend the conferences to network with arts professionals around the world and bring their learning to the next level.

The total value of the scholarship is HK$93,400 which covers the tuition fee (US$5,950, approximately HK$46,400) of the Executive Program in Arts & Culture Strategy, and the subsistence allowance for attending the two conferences at HK$47,000 in total for flight tickets, accommodation, transportation and meals.

Ms Elaine Lin, former Collection Manager of Asia Art Archive, is the first awardee of this Scholarship. Ms Lin said, “I find the programme very beneficial to my development. The online courses, which are self-paced modules, consist of a good mix of theories and practical knowledge. Not only do they deepen my management know-how, but they also introduce effective practical tools for the operation of non-profit organisation. Meeting overseas like-minded peers at the convening, I am able to understand the common challenges we face. These productive exchanges can definitely empower me to explore cultural issues in the future.”

The said Scholarship is part of the Arts Administrators’ Training Programme supported by the Home Affairs Bureau. HKADC will introduce a number of diverse attachment and professional training programmes in the near future. Details will be announced in due course.

Interested practitioners are advised to refer to the application guidelines and form.
