Hong Kong Annual Arts Survey Report 2020/21

The Hong Kong Annual Arts Survey 2020/21 collected data on the performing arts programmes that were staged in 61 venues under 26 major performing facilities, visual arts exhibitions that were held in 290 venues, and film festivals and featured / individual screening of film arts events in 80 different venues between April 2020 and March 2021. It aims to provide comprehensive statistics and analyses such as programme types, venue types distribution, box office records, attendance and presenters to the arts sector. Data collection coverage has further expanded to literary arts field from 2018/19, including analyses of the literary and reading promotion activities from 42 presenters on activity types, and the distribution of presenters, book genres, languages and authors etc.

In 2020/21, due to the pandemic, arts and cultural facilities, performing facilities, cinemas and other venues were closed from time to time in compliance with the government's anti-epidemic measures. Arts and cultural programmes could not be staged and some of them went online during the closure of venues. Therefore, data on online arts and cultural programmes are included in this year's Survey for reference.
