With the support of the Home Affairs Bureau, HKADC commissioned a research consultancy to conduct a study on arts participation as audience during COVID-19 outbreak, in particular via alternative channels such as social media, paid video-on-demand platforms, and TV/ radio broadcast. The online survey found that 61% of 1,500 respondents had participated in at least one art form from January 2020 to January 2021, with the majority having engaged in alternative modes. Although the participation incidence was comparatively lower than that before the epidemic, 86% of respondents expressed interest in participating in future arts programmes when the epidemic would be over, and they generally preferred physical attendance over alternative-mode participation.
