The number of programmes and performances grew in 2018/19*, yet attendance dropped compared to the previous year while box office income was stable. The figures are as follows:
- A total of 5,289 performing arts programmes were held in 2018/19, with an overall increment of 2% compared to the previous year. Substantial growth in Variety and Pop Show programmes of 11% was marked, while ups and downs were observed across different art form sectors;
- 9,481 performances in total were recorded (5% higher than that of previous year), with increment in both paid and free performances;
- Yet total attendance dropped by 2% to 3.37 million despite more performances were held. Again ups and downs were observed across different art form sectors; in particular, the number of Variety and Pop Show audience increased by 19%, whereas the number of Theatre and Music audience both dropped by 11%;
- Total box office income was stable at HK$527 million. Growth was seen in the box office income of Dance, Xiqu and Variety and Pop shows programmes, yet much of the growth was offset by the drop in the Theatre and Music sectors.

*The number of programmes in 2018/19 is based on programmes held in 27 arts and cultural facilities during the financial year from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019. Hong Kong Coliseum, Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, AsiaWorld-Expo, Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre, etc are not included in the 27 arts and cultural facilities.
