Study Tour on Shanghai Performing Arts Industry, a proactive project initiated by HKADC Arts Administration Group, to explore the New Arts Space of Shanghai

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) is going to organise the Study Tour on Shanghai Performing Arts Industry (Study Tour), a proactive project initiated by its Arts Administration Group. The Study Tour aims to explore the ecology and trend of the performing arts in Shanghai, inspire and deepen participants’understanding of innovative ideas on management and operation models through first-hand exposure in the city, and foster exchanges between both places. Local potential arts administrators with experience are welcome to join the Study Tour.

The theme of the Study Tour is “New Ecology, New Arts Space". Taking the transformation of Shanghai arts industry as a case study, the Study Tour will visit various arts institutions and venues, as well as meet with local performing arts experts and units, enabling participants to learn from the city’s evolving arts ecology and innovative business modules. The Study Tour will invite a seasoned arts administrator to serve as the mentor to lead the journey, guiding the participants through a series of field visits and discussions to probe deeply into the latest arts development in the city.

The Study Tour will be held from 8 to 11 April 2024 (4-day 3-night) in Shanghai with key learning focuses* as follows:

• The city’s arts and cultural development strategy on new arts spaces and Show Life at Huangpu District
• The rise of Asia Mansion and commercial small-scale theatres
• The Shanghai International Musical Festival at the Shanghai Culture Square
• The Market Growth of Shanghai Grand Theatre Arts Group
• SMG LIVE’s Resident Performance –Sleep No More and Shanghai Musical Art Center
• The Bank of Communications New Bund 31 Performing Arts Center, a multi-purpose project that combines cultural and commercial activities

Up to 25 potential arts administrators who are in leadership and management positions of their arts organisation/project are welcome to join the Study Tour. Each eligible successful applicant will receive approximately 35% subsidy from HKADC, while the remaining Study Tour fee at HK$6,700 will be borne by the successful applicant. The Study Tour fee of each participant includes a round-trip economy air ticket from Hong Kong to Shanghai, a 3-night stay in a single room at a 3-star hotel, local transportation and partial meals within the designated itinerary etc.*.

Late submissions or submissions via means other than the mentioned above will not be processed.
