Three Local Arts Administrators Awarded “Overseas Arts Administration Scholarships”

To nurture local arts administrators and support the long term arts and cultural development of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) launched the “Overseas Arts Administration Scholarships 2017” with funding support from the Home Affairs Bureau. The Scholarship enables promising arts administrators to further their studies abroad and strengthen their professional training. Three scholarships at a total value of about HK$1.2 million have been awarded to this cohort.

The three awardees are Ms Dorothy Cheung, Ms Claudia Tsang and Ms Mimi Wong. The Scholarship supports the recipients to further their studies abroad and pursue master degree programmes related to arts administration. The recipients are expected to contribute to the arts sector upon their return to Hong Kong after completion of their studies.

Ms Dorothy Cheung was the Program Officer of WMA Programme at WYNG Foundation, responsible for assisting the implementation of the WMA Masters project, offering administrative and curatorial support to the programme and liaising with different stakeholders. Before joining WYNG Foundation, Ms Cheung worked in various non-government and academic institutions, such as AIDS Concern and Hong Kong Baptist University. Ms Cheung has been undertaking the MA Media Design: Lens-based at Piet Zwart Institute (the Netherlands) since September 2017.

Ms Claudia Tsang was an Assistant Curator II at the Art Promotion Office of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, specialised in the research, planning and coordination of public art projects and education programmes. Ms Tsang had also contributed in other arts organisations previously, including Arts in Heritage Research Limited and Hong Kong Arts Centre. Ms Tsang has been undertaking the MRes Curatorial/ Knowledge at Goldsmiths, University of London (the UK) since September 2017.

Ms Mimi Wong is the Program Coordinator at The Metroplex (Office, Cineplex Asia Limited), responsible for the line-up of potential films for “MetroSelect” programmes, liaison with local short film directors and overseas film distributors, and coordination of film materials and other film festival events. Ms Wong worked in various positions of Hong Kong Arts Centre after graduation at the University of Hong Kong. Ms Wong is going to undertake the MA Culture, Criticism and Curation at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (the UK) in January 2018.
