The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) encourages local arts groups and practitioners to actively create and implement projects through a variety of funding schemes. In response to the changing landscape of the arts sector after the pandemic, HKADC has conducted a comprehensive review of the grant schemes and the allocation of resources in the past decade. HKADC announced today (13 January) the launch of the modified Year Grant and Project Grant Schemes to streamline procedures, provide opportunities for promising arts practitioners, support excellent art projects and promote fair competition.
2025/26 Year Grant Scheme
The Year Grant Scheme will include One-Year and Two-Year grant support for covering daily operational expenses and/or arts activities of arts groups. The funding period is revised to one or two years to increase variability of funded arts groups and encourage them to pursue artistic excellence. Additionally, the Literary Arts Platform Scheme will be incorporated into the Year Grant Scheme to streamline administrative procedures. The revised plan allows Year Grant recipients to participate in Project Grant Scheme with two rounds of application every year, competing on the same level playing field for resources with other arts groups and practitioners. The maximum funding amount for Project Grant Scheme is up to HK$700,000 (please see below for Project Grant details). Arts groups that successfully apply for project grants will have more resources to organise larger and more in-depth arts programmes, which would further enhance their artistic standard.
In light of the revised plan, the 56 arts groups currently receiving the Council's 2024/25 Year Grant Scheme can also submit applications for the 2024 Project Grant Scheme to organise arts activities in the second half of the year. The grace period for the aforesaid 56 arts groups’ application is extended to 6pm on 21 February, 2025 (Friday).
2025 Project Grant
Hong Kong arts organisations, arts practitioners, and arts groups receiving Year Grant from the Council are eligible to apply for the 2025 Project Grant Scheme. These grants support innovative and impactful art projects which level up artistic standards and greater public appreciation and participation. The maximum grant amount has been increased from HK$500,000 to HK$700,000, and the Scheme supports programmes of various arts forms including music, dance, drama, xiqu, film and media arts, cross/multi-disciplinary arts, visual arts, and literary arts.
The current Venue Subsidy Scheme will also be merged into the Project Grant Scheme to simplify administrative procedures and facilitate applications. Applicants shall only need to detail venue rental expenses in their proposals and budgets for showcase and/or rehearsal, and the applications shall be assessed in one go. The administrative costs and related allowances of the approved projects will be proportionally increased to meet the rising production costs. Cultural Exchange Project Grant, which opens four rounds of application per year, will continue to strengthen cultural connections and exchange between Hong Kong arts practitioners/ arts groups and those in the Mainland and abroad.
