Project Grant Adjudication Report
(For applications received between 1 July 2009 and 31 December 2009)

Music
38 music applications were received and out of them, 33 applications were processed. 17 examiners were invited in the adjudication of the applications. The number of music project grant applications received was high as compared to the past, and the standards of the projects were good, resulted in very keen competition among the applications.

A total of 11 applications (including 1 emerging artists scheme application) were supported by the HKADC. The total amount of grant for music is $1,019,500. The success rate is 33%.

Dance
16 dance applications were received and out of them, 14 applications were processed. 13 examiners were invited in the adjudication of the applications.

A total of 10 applications (including 4 Hong Kong and PRD cultural exchange applications) were supported by the HKADC with a total grant of $796,600. The success rate is 71%.

Drama
48 drama applications were received and out of them, 45 applications were processed. 10 examiners were invited in the adjudication of the applications.

A total of 12 applications were supported by the HKADC with a total grant of $674,920. The success rate is 27%.

Xiqu
25 xiqu applications were received and out of them, 19 applications were processed. In addition, there was one application deferred from the last round, making the total of 20 applications being processed. 9 examiners were invited in the adjudication of the applications.

A total of 6 applications were supported by the HKADC with a total grant of $594,300. The success rate is 30%.

Literary Arts
68 literary arts applications were received and out of them, 63 applications were processed. 49 examiners were invited in the adjudication of the applications.

In the end, a total of 29 applications were supported by the HKADC, including 1 emerging artists scheme application, with a total grant of $629,900. The success rate is 43%.

Visual Arts
76 visual arts applications were received and out of which, 68 applications were processed. 25 examiners were invited in the adjudication of the applications.

The competition is keen in this round due to the large number of applications received, and many of which were of good artistic standard. A total of 26 applications (including 2 emerging artists scheme and 1 Hong Kong and PRD cultural exchange applications) were supported by the HKADC with a total grant of $1,344,450. The success rate is 38%.

Film and Media Arts
A total of 29 film and media arts applications, i.e. 22 film and 7 media arts applications, were received in this round of applications. Out of them, 28 applications consisting of 21 film and 7 media arts applications were processed. 16 examiners were invited in the adjudication of the applications.

A total of 6 applications were supported by the HKADC with a total grant of $1,783,200. The success rate is 21%.

Cross/Multi-disciplinary Arts, Folk Arts and other composite arts activities

15 applications belonging to cross/multi-disciplinary arts, folk arts and other composite arts activities were received. Out of them, 13 applications were processed. There were 31 examiners invited in the adjudication of the applications.

2 external experts with folk arts knowledge also assisted in the adjudication of the 2 folk arts applications. A total of 5 applications were supported by the HKADC with a total grant of $379,500.

Points to note
There were 12 applications received in this round and there was no or limited details on the project objectives, content or itemized budget. As a result, HKADC was unable to process the applications and needed to return them back to the applicants.

The objectives, content and budget of a project are basic information that examiners need to review in the adjudication process. It is important for applicants to submit these information in the application form as requested. Applicants should be aware that funding is limited and the number of applications seeking for support is ever increasing. The total grant amount sought by all applications in each round of application far outweighs the amount of funding that can be disbursed. As there is a keen competition for funding among the applications, a clear and well-prepared application can help examiners to better understand the applicant’s artistic concept and the feasibility of the proposal, helping them to make appropriate grants recommendations.
