YUEN Shi Chun

Mr YUEN joined the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in 1974 and has been the orchestra's principal liuqin player since 1987. In his spare time, he is keen on making, improving and teaching musical instruments, and has successfully modified more than 20 types of instruments. Mr. YUEN's contributions towards the promotion, study and development of traditional Chinese musical instruments are respectful. In 1993 he was made a member of the Expert Group on the Modification of Musical Instruments under the Ministry of Culture in China and sat on the Judging Panel of the Country's Technological Improvement Awards. He also formed three separate chamber ensembles featuring modified musical instruments in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong - the Taipei Liuqin Ensemble, the Guangzhou No. 7 Alto Ruan Xian Orchestra and the Hong Kong Ruan Xian Ensemble.
