Award for Arts Achievement :: Dance
Helen LAI
Ms LAI is a founding member of the Hong Kong Ballet for All. In
1979 she joined the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) and was
its Artistic Director from 1985 to 1989. She has been the CCDC's
Resident Choreographer since 1991. Apart from choreographing for
local arts groups and film productions, she has also worked with
many overseas arts establishments. Her major works include Revolutionary
Pekinese Opera (Millennium Mix) and Nine Songs. She was conferred
the Choreographer of the Year by the Hong Kong Artists' Guild (1990),
the Badge of Honour by Queen Elizabeth II (1995), the Medal of Honour
by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (2000)
and the Distinguished Achievement Award by the Hong Kong Dance Alliance
(2002).
