Youth Arts Week
An Exploration of Boundless Realms of Arts

Youth Arts Week, a signature event of the 15th Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC), was unveiled on 11 Aug 2023 at The Mills in Tsuen Wan. Around 1,200 arts ambassadors from more than 600 local primary, secondary and special schools participated in the event in a hybrid mode.

Themed “Multi-disciplinary Arts”, the Youth Arts Week will present a series of arts activities in August, allowing the arts ambassadors together with their peers, friends and families as well as the general
public to explore the multi-faceted and diversity of multi-disciplinary arts.

The ceremony was officiated by Mrs Vicki Kwok, Deputy Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism. Also joining the event included Dr Frankie Yeung, Vice Chairman of HKADC, Prof Karen Chan, Chairperson of HKADC’s Arts Promotion Committee, Council Members Dr Chan Suet-yi, Ms Lau Wai-ming, Dr Chan Ka-hei and Chief Executive Ms Winsome Chow.

Over 40 arts ambassadors, who have received training in the past two months, showcased their artistic talents at the fabulous contemporary dance performance One Yard (一碼) and percussion performance Chanting Map (曲鼓迷離) at the opening ceremony. Two arts ambassadors who took part in the visual arts enhancement course also shared their adventure during outdoor creation and showcased their outstanding creations. Media artist Vvzela Kook conducted a guided tour to introduce the creative ideas of her multi-disciplinary artworks on G/F of the Mills to close the ceremony. The opening ceremony was streamed online through Facebook, enabling the public to participate and experience the joy of arts together.

The Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme

The Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme (AAiSS) organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) is an arts promotion scheme. Since its inception in 2008, AAiSS has amassed an alumni of more than 16,000 ambassadors from local primary, secondary and special schools who have demonstrated their artistic talents and potentials while inviting others to partake in the fun of creating the arts, living out the cooperative spirit of “Live in Art, Thrive in Sharing”.

This year, AAiSS invites The Mills as a curatorial partner to present the work of media artist Vvzela Kook -- “I Wonder Who is Knitting for Me” Multi-disciplinary Arts Experience.
