To showcase the diversity and vibrancy of Hong Kong contemporary dance, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) is pleased to organise the first major representation of Hong Kong dance at “internationale tanzmesse nrw” (Tanzmesse) and lead a delegation of more than 60 Hong Kong’s choreographers, dance artists, and arts administrators to participate in this largest contemporary dance biennial from 31 August to 3 September 2016.
A booth hosted by the HKADC will be set up in the Tanzmesse’s exhibition to introduce Hong Kong’s outstanding dance artists and their creation to international festival directors, choreographers, producers and impresarios. The HKADC booth will also serve as an excellent platform for Hong Kong artists to have creative dialogues with international peers and associates. Apart from the exhibition, the HKADC is proud to support six unique Hong Kong dance pieces that are selected from hundreds of applications to be staged in the “Performance Programme” and “Open Studio” at Tanzmesse 2016. This will open a window for international peers and colleagues in the field to experience the creativity of Hong Kong contemporary dance and build connections, increasing the opportunities for Hong Kong dance artists to be invited for cultural exchange. In addition, the HKADC will also support 15 representatives from Hong Kong small-and-medium-size dance companies and individual choreographers to join the delegation by subsidizing their trips to Dusseldorf so that more Hong Kong dance professionals can have the opportunity to participate in this international dance market, expand their vision and connections, while Tanzmesse’s participants can also get to know the many facets of Hong Kong dance talents.
Under the banner “Hong Kong Spins”, the HKADC is ready to spin from our home city to promote extraordinary Hong Kong dance artists and works overseas through the exchange of ideas and the deepening of communication with our international peers. By establishing connections and strengthening ties with the international contemporary dance sector, it is hoped that Hong Kong dance development will spin into a new dimension.
