Hong Kong Arts Development Council
Welcomes the Support of Arts and Cultural Development in 2023 Policy Address

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) welcomes and supports the development directives outlined in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address announced today, including the continuous support of local arts and cultural development, a stronger development of the creative industries and the dedication to foster inheritance and promotion of Chinese culture in the light of developing Hong Kong into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

Mr Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, Chairman of HKADC, said, “the inheritance and promotion of Chinese culture lays a solid foundation for us to understand our country and cultivate our love of it . We very much support the SAR Government in boosting efforts to promote Chinese culture so that it takes roots in the hearts of younger generation of Hong Kong. This year, HKADC’s Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme will be themed under ‘Inheritance of Chinese Culture’, providing an array of arts activities for more than 1,000 students from primary, secondary and special schools to take part.”

On the front of developing Hong Kong into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, Chairman Fok added, “leveraging on our vibrant cultural diversity, world-class cultural infrastructure and strong network with global arts institutions, Hong Kong should seize the opportunity to develop into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo (HKPAX), organised by HKADC with the support of Government, is now in full swing for its launch in October 2024. The mega event will bring together arts leaders and practitioners from the Greater China region and the world. Since its kick-off, HKPAX has garnered overwhelming responses, demonstrating Hong Kong’s ability to go global and, at the same time, to bring in.”

The Policy Address also mentioned the Culture Commission’s support of organising sustainable signature programmes of arts and culture in the society. The initiative resonates with HKADC’s “Eminent Arts Group Scheme” to further cultivate the development of local professional arts groups, and to support established and qualified arts groups in advancement, contributing to the vibrant development of the arts in Hong Kong. Funding for the “2024-2029 Eminent Arts Group Scheme” will be doubled compared to the last edition and the number of selected arts groups will be increased to five while the maximum grant amount will also be raised.

In future, HKADC will fully work in line with the Government's strategies of arts and cultural development, and to continue its efforts in nurturing local arts practitioners and arts groups, promoting Chinese culture and developing Hong Kong into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.
