Hong Kong Arts Development Council to hold two Public Briefing Sessions on its 2019 Nomination Exercise

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) has made some preliminary suggestions regarding its 2019 Nomination of Representatives of Arts Interests for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (Nomination Exercise).  To introduce these suggestions and collect public opinion, HKADC will host two public briefing sessions on August 24 and 29.

Established in 1995, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council is a statutory body set up to promote the development of arts in Hong Kong. Under section 3 of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council Ordinance (Chapter 472), the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region may appoint up to 10 persons nominated by the specified arts interests as members of the HKADC.  The current term of office of the HKADC members will expire on 31 December 2019.  Members/employees of eligible arts organisations and individual arts workers may apply to participate in the Nomination Exercise to nominate representatives of the respective arts interests for the Chief Executive’s consideration for appointment as members of the HKADC for the next term (i.e. 2020-2022). The 10 specified arts interests include Arts Administration, Arts Criticism, Arts Education, Xiqu, Dance, Drama, Film Arts, Literary Arts, Music and Visual Arts.

HKADC will publicly introduce preliminary suggestions regarding the Nomination Exercise, and upon reception of public opinion on the matter, consolidate all considerations for its overall recommendations to the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB).

The preliminary suggestions for the 2019 nomination exercise included revising the eligibility criteria of individual arts workers by renewing the list of recognised local arts competitions or awards and updating the list of arts space in the eligibility criteria of “individual artist tenants”. Document containing these suggestions are available at https://www.voteforhkadc2019.hk
