Candidate Nomination for 2019 HKADC Nomination Exercise Begins

The candidate nomination period under the 2019 Nomination of Representatives of Arts Interests for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) (the Nomination Exercise) begins today. HKADC encourages arts practitioners who wish to seek candidature to submit their applications as soon as possible.

Voter registration for this year’s Nomination Exercise was completed on 9 August, with a total of 6 843 voters registered. The HKADC encourages the arts community to actively participate in the Phase 3 of the Nomination Exercise, and urges those who aspire to represent their respective arts interests to seek candidature.

The two-week nomination period begins today (30 August) till 5pm on 13 September. Each candidate must be a registered voter of the arts interest for which he/she intends to stand as a candidate, and nominated by at least 5 proposers or 1% of the number of the registered voters in the same arts interest (whichever is the higher). A proposer must be a registered voter of the same arts interest as the prospective candidate and can nominate only one candidate in this Nomination Exercise. The numbers of proposers required for each arts interest for the 2019 Nomination Exercise are as follows:

Applicants seeking candidature should submit completed forms together with all required supporting documents to the Nomination Agent (Note) before the deadline.

The Nomination Agent will hold a meeting with the validly nominated candidates (or their representatives) tentatively scheduled for 18 September 2019 (Wednesday) on electioneering and polling arrangements. Other details on electioneering and polling activities will be announced later. Dates of the candidate forum and polling for the Nomination Exercise are scheduled as follows:

Candidate forum: 5 October (Saturday) and 6 October 2019 (Sunday)

Polling: 20 October (Sunday) and 21 October 2019 (Monday)

Registered voters will receive from the Nomination Agent the voter notification letters. The HKADC is a statutory body set up to promote the development of arts in Hong Kong.  The current term of office of the HKADC members, including representatives of 10 arts interests, will expire on 31 December 2019.  The HKADC is conducting an exercise to nominate representatives of the respective arts interests for the Chief Executive’s consideration of appointment as members of the HKADC for the next term.
