The ADC has joined hands with the Labour Department to organize a Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme: Arts and Creative Industry. The scheme is to provide training opportunities to enhance the employment potential of the youth as well as to attract new blood into the industry.
Unemployed young people between the age of 15 and 24 with education attainment below degree level are eligible to join the scheme. They will receive a 6-12 months on-the-job training with a monthly salary not less than $4,000. At the same time, the Labour Department will offer a monthly training subsidy of $2,000 to the employer. Upon satisfactory performance, employers may consider continuing the employment of the trainees. Up until now, the scheme has received more than 14,000 applications. Some of them have already completed a 40-hour induction course and been offered suitable placements.
Over the past few months, in addition to placing advertisements in the newspaper, the ADC sent out more than 2,000 letters to employers in the arts and creative industry, introducing the scheme and inviting them to offer suitable positions. Until now, around 100 positions are on offer in fields such as stage and audio-visual programme production, media and publication, marketing/promotion and sales, and management.
