The 5th Hong Kong Literature Festival had come to an end on 18 July 2004. The Festival offered up to 10 varieties of programmes, an array of more than 30 literary activities including Symposium, Thematic Exhibition, Youth Literary Camp, Literary Talk, Arts Performance, Dialogue with Creators, Translation Workshop, Interflow, Competition and Literary Film Appreciation. The Festival attracted more than 19,700 participants.
The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) was responsible to implement the "Symposium", the "Arts Performance", and the "Interflow":
Symposium
The Symposium this year had adopted the theme of "New Vision of Literature – Exploration into the Soul and Nature". Over 10 writers and scholars from the Mainland and Hong Kong hosted three symposiums to discuss the development of literature under the themes of "Education and Values in Life", "Social Reality and Concern" and "Literary Arts and Life". Participants had raised different comments and concerns in the symposiums. And the overall attendance rate is 72%.

Arts Performance
The "Arts Performance" was conducted at the Foyer of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Through the integration of literature and different artforms, audience could experience how the literature can be transformed on stage. Children's literature, well-known poems and other works of writers had been interpreted in drama, music, dance and xiqu, with innovative ideas to give a new literature dimension. Over 1,300 audience were attracted and their response was overwhelming.

Interflow
The HKADC was pleased to engage local literary bodies and cultural practitioners in our three "Interflow" on: "Seminar on 'Newspaper Supplements and Cultural Education'", the "Secondary School Poetry Competition and Multi-media Recitation" and "Vision in Multi-media Metropolitan Culture". The "Interflow" attracted approximately 500 participants to explore the fun of literature in an interactive and comfortable environment.
