Following the success of Mobile Art Gallery and Gallery Ferry, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) joins hands again with the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), New World First Bus Services Ltd (NWFB) and New World First Ferry Services Ltd (NWFF) and teams up with Citybus Limited (CTB) to present a new open competition, Mobile Art Expedition. Under the theme "Diary of Hong Kong", the public is able to view the many facets of Hong Kong through the eyes of the artists.
The contest comprises two categories, namely the Bus Compartment and the Ferry Pier. Out of the 116 entries submitted in July 2005, the adjudication panel selected 27 sets of artworks for bus compartment and 14 for ferry pier which will be put on public view from 3 December 2005 to 2 June 2006.
The selected works will be on parade in nine buses running on routes 8P, 112 of NWFB and routes 962, 969 of CTB while selected artworks for the ferry pier will be set out in the waiting area of First Ferry Pier 5 in Central.
A Kick-off Cum Award Presentation was held on 3 December 2005 in Victoria Park. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr Peter K K Wong, Vice-Chairman of the ADC; Mr Chung Ling-hoi, Deputy Director of LCSD; Mr Tsang Yam-pui, Vice-Chairman of CTB, NWFB and NWFF. The 27 bus compartment artworks on three buses were stationed at the no 6 soccer pitch from 1 to 4 pm on that day for public viewing.
