Local arts development and related policy have aroused keen public responses in recent years. The Hong Kong Arts Development Council has commissioned the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong) to conduct a research into the arts development of Hong Kong for the past decade (1995-2005). "A Decade of Arts Development in Hong Kong" is therefore published as a retrospect and forecast on the local arts development.
The seven articles in this publication explore the arts development in Hong Kong for the period of 1995-2005. It focuses on four main areas namely, arts education, creative industries, cultural exchange, audience building and resources development. With numerous literature references, this publication gives readers insights into the past local arts development. While problems affecting local arts development and its future are discussed in the articles, it is hoped that the publication will serve as a substantial and constructive reference in local arts research and policymaking on future local arts development.
