"Only through art can we get outside of ourselves and know another's view of the universe which is not the same as ours and see landscapes which would otherwise have remained unknown to us like the landscape of the moon". – Marcel Proust
The research report entitled The Creative Community, by Professor John Eger of San Diego State University, says that the key to building a 21st century city is to make technology secondary and to emphasis job opportunities and quality of life. To build a creative community it is necessary to exploit the synergies between the arts, culture and business, and to take the initiative to invest both human and financial resources in facilities for the city's people.
As Hong Kong people are facing precisely these challenges in the development of a knowledge-based society, this report merits our consideration. The ADC has, therefore, produced a Chinese translation of The Creative Community for distribution free of charge to primary and secondary schools, universities and relevant government departments. Those interested may also download a PDF version of the report at ADC's website.
