The competition identifies aspiring young filmmakers with potential and provides a platform for them to create and showcase their works.

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) is partnering with the UK Clore Leadership Programme (CLP) to launch the “Hong Kong Scholarship on the Clore Leadership Programme”. The scholarship is funded by the Home Affairs Bureau with the aim to nurture creative talents in Hong Kong. The ADC is inviting application from local arts practitioners for the 2012/13 Scholarship.

Joined hands with the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), the Hong Kong Arts Development Council launches the “Overseas Training / Research Programme for Leaders from Local Arts Groups on Future Arts Development in Hong Kong”, aiming to nurture the artistic and administrative leaders of the local arts groups to become research fellows in the next three years. Other than expanding the vision and enhancing the skills and knowledge of the leaders, the programme can also contribute to the future arts development in Hong Kong. Eligible artistic administrative leaders of local arts groups are welcome to submit detailed applications.

The ADC has launched the Internship Scheme since 2008 to provide internship opportunities for young arts administrators and to strengthen the training of local arts administrators. On 28 March 2012, ten interns of the programme gathered together for a meeting with experienced arts administration professionals.

On 24 February, 20 Arts Ambassadors visited the Osage Gallery in Central where the exhibition Wilson Shieh Lives in Soho presented by visual artist Wilson Shieh was held. During the visit, Shieh shared with the ambassadors his daily work as a full-time artist.

“Fresh Wave - International Short Film Festival”, organized by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, is now collaborating with the Broadway Cinematheque to screen four award-winning films from the “Fresh Wave 2011 - Local Competition Section”. Titled “Demonstrating Hong Kong: Selected Winning Films from Fresh Wave 2011”, the programme will include Not Now But When (Fresh Wave Award and Best Film, Open Division), July 1st, An Unhappy Birthday (Best Creativity, Open Division), 6th March (Best Script, Open Division) and Gwangong Vs Alien (Best Creativity, Student Division).

Targeted for arts practitioners, the workshop will focus on introducing the issues on copyright, as well as the spectrum of rights and licenses available. Common queries on copyright issues related to the arts and creative industries will be answered. Admission is free.

Starting from August, Close To Culture will feature on the latest trend of new media arts. The first episode on 6 August highlighted the “Invention and Intervention – Power Showcase of Hong Kong New Media Artists” exhibition and introduced the innovative artworks exhibited this summer. In the next two episodes, two of the participating artists -- Keith Lam & Teddy Lo will share their experiences in artistic creation with us. The last episode will bring us to the closing show of the exhibition “Sense LIVE!” – a sensational and cross-disciplinary performance by new media artists and professional dancers.

The HKADC is now collaborating with Mei Ah Television to broadcast 19 films selected from the Fresh Wave 2010 - Local Competition Section. Programmed into four episodes, the short films will be broadcasted on NOW TV Channel 137 on four Sunday nights at 24:00 from 7 to 28 August, 2011. The filmmakers will also share their concepts behind the creations. Stay tuned with Fresh Wave Local Competition Film Showcase to appreciate the artistic creations of local young filmmakers!

Hong Kong takes part in the 54th Venice Biennale (Visual Arts) again. This year, the Hong Kong Pavilion will showcase the exhibition “Frogtopia.Hongkornucopia”. Featuring the works of local arts veteran Kwok Man-ho, a.k.a. Frog King, the exhibition is under the curatorship of Benny Chia, Tsang Tak-ping and Wong Shun-kit in association with Hong Kong Fringe Club. The ADC will join hands with the Cable TV to present a new episode ArTour in the Cable TV’s programme Close to Culture. ArTour will interview local young artists and introduce arts and cultural programmes to the audience. The first episode will be broadcast at 11:30pm on 4 June, at i-Cable Finance Info Channel.
