The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) extends its warmest congratulations to Dr Darwin Chen SBS, former Chairman of the ADC, who is conferred the Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong Institute of Education in recognition of his significant achievements in the development of arts and culture in Hong Kong.
Dr Chen has made immense contribution to promote arts and culture in Hong Kong. During his days in the civil service, Dr Chen served for several years as Director of Cultural Services. Other positions he held included Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing, Deputy Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Commissioner for Labour and Director of Buildings and Lands. Since retirement, Dr Chen has continued to serve Hong Kong and the region through various public bodies. He was made a Companion of the Imperial Service Order in 1990, an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and an Honorary University Fellow of the University of Hong Kong in 2001 and awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2003. Dr Chen is currently the Honorary President of The Hong Kong Children’s Choir and Chairman of Board of Honorary Advisors of the School of Professional and Continuing Education of the University of Hong Kong.
Dr Chen had been the ADC's Vice Chairman since 1996 and Chairman from July 2002 to 2004. Over the years, he has contributed insightful opinions on ADC’s works and its future development directives and actively promoted the development of arts and culture in Hong Kong.
Dr Chen’s contribution to the flourish development of arts and culture in Hong Kong is well recognised. The ADC sincerely congratulates Dr Chen for being conferred the Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong Institute of Education.
